This week’s change: Eliminate corn from your diet
Level of Discomfort (10 being the most painful): 6-8
It’s inflammatory and one of the top 9 most genetically modified foods.
Here’s the dealio folks — wheat, corn and soy are huge crops in the US and they appear in a myriad of confusing forms in just about everything we eat. They are utterly pervasive in all prepared foods and because they change up the name of it with such great frequency, it’s hard to identify.
For example…did you know that these products are commonly derived from corn?
Caramel, maltodextrin, dextrose, malt flavoring, magnesium citrate, tocopherol (Vitamin E)…
If you are eating processed foods, you are eating corn…in high quantities.
The more of ONE food item that you eat with great regularity, the higher the likelihood you’ll develop a food sensitivity to that food. If you have leaky gut, your chances of having a problem with corn increase exponentially if you are living on the standard American diet (SAD).
What is leaky gut and why should you care?
This is a very sobering website. I highly recommend you take a peak at it. Do you know what you’re eating.
What do we substitute in place of it, if anything? If the crunch of corn chips is what you seek, you can move over to sweet potato chips temporarily but that’s cheating. You are substituting one junk food for another. Albeit a cleaner junk food, but junk food nonetheless.
If you are looking for vegetable substitute for whole ears or kernel corn, there are plenty of veggies to choose from.
Wanting to move away from corn flour and similar products? Cassava, coconut, almond…all less inflammatory and cleaner options.
Potential Positive Outcomes: Fewer symptoms of inflammation (aches, pains, brain fog, lethargy) and fewer GMOS and the chemicals that treat them knocking around in your body.
