This week’s change: Choose Eggs Wisely
Level of Discomfort (10 being the most painful): 1
Why: Eggs can be a good, easy and inexpensive source of protein. Eggs are also often foods that many people react to poorly. However, I’ve come to believe that in many cases it’s not the eggs, per se, but how the chickens who laid them were fed (and treated). You are what you eat, eats, right? Same goes for them, too. If the hens are eating chemical laden garbage, so are you.
NOTE: I am NOT throwing local farmers under the bus, here. I’m noting, again, that just because you buy eggs at your local farmer’s market it doesn’t make them the best choice. Local does not equal organic.
Pasture raised and organically fed is what you want to look for.
Potential Positive Outcomes: Reduced potential for allergen issues, reduced GMOs in your diet and more nutrition. Better quality food for the hens means better quality eggs for you.
