On the heels of my first piece published in the Huffington Post I decided to switch up the blog post I had planned for today with something that’s sort of burning in my brain — the process of re-inventing ourselves.
What is here today is a reminder, to all of you, that YOU and only YOU are in charge of your life.
You have made a series of choices during the course of your existence that has brought you to exactly where you are now. And please, don’t tell me stories about how you:
“Had no other choice”
“Had to follow in the family business”
“Had to go to my mother’s alma mater”
Insert other ridiculous excuse __________________________________ .
We ALL have choices. We may think we don’t, but we do.
When we feel like we “have to make choices” based on how others are going to react, we are making a choice to take the path of least resistance. That…is a choice. You can always make choices that aren’t favorable to your family and their expectations of you, but few people do because frankly, it’s just easier to roll with the punches.
I know a LOT of unhappy people. A LOT. People who weren’t capable of standing up, exerting their power and taking the path that they wanted to take (and never took).
I’m here to tell you this.
It’s not too late to make a new decision. To choose to live a different life. To be whom you always dreamed you wanted to be.
My good friend, Steve Goldberg, got a phone call from me when I was buying my first house. I was hysterical because it was basically wiping me out financially. I was panic stricken. He said to me, “Jodi…relax. If for some reason this doesn’t work out and it ends up being a bad decisions, here’s what you do. (screams) You make ANOTHER DECISION.”
And guess what? All of life is really that easy.
If you don’t like what YOU have now, you have the power to change it.
Change what you eat. Exercise. Stop drinking. Give up sugar. Quit caffeine.
YOU are in control of your life. No one else.
Get out of victim mode and get into action mode. Start making shit happen.
Want to change your life but aren’t sure exactly what you want to change it to?
Want a really, really, really simple way to start some changes rolling that you can fold some more well thought out decisions into later?
Change what you are eating.
Yes, you read that correctly. Change your food and your life will change.
Start FEEDING your body nutritious foods and your life will change.
Here’s the deal. If you want the energy, the mental clarity, the vitality and power necessary to make positive change in your life, you can get all of that by changing your food. It’s a chain reaction.
The adverse negative effects of the chemical shit storm taking place in the average American’s body is mind boggling.
Your poor damn body is in constant fight mode. Fighting all day every day, the onslaught of crap it can’t identify and doesn’t know what the hell to do with. Read some labels at the supermarket, will you? You want to know why you feel crappy? There’s a whole list of big ass, un-decipherable chemical compounds right in front of your eyes.
Still want to know why you feel crappy all the time?
And don’t think that all that crap isn’t effecting your brain, ‘cause it is. The massive uptick of depression in this country isn’t JUST a result of our external environment and busy lifestyles. No ma’am. Chemical shit storm victim #2 is your brain.
In order to change your life, you need some energy. And mental clarity. And maybe a few less pounds around your waist. And a heart beat that enjoys a little strenuous work out to keep it interested and functioning.
How are you going to get the energy you need to change your life?
You, my friend, are going to have to make some decisions about what’s important to you.
Is it more important for you to have that few minutes of pleasure eating those 10 oreo cookies, or is it more important to you to be around when your kid graduates from college, or gets married, or has her first child?
Are your food (alcohol, drug) addictions more important to you than living the life you dream of living?
If so, that’s cool. I’m not being judgmental, just posing a rhetorical question.
Want an amazing life? Really amazing life? You can make it happen. It’s soooooooo much easier than you think.
Start by feeding your body good quality nutrient dense foods and I promise, things will start to change.
It really, seriously, can ALL start with one green smoothie.
