This week’s change: Eliminate processed sugar for 30 days
Level of Discomfort (10 being the most painful): 10
Why: Without sounding really horrible, do I need to explain at length, why processed sugars are bad for us? I didn’t think so. I have super smart followers.
All I’m doing here is calling us ALL out (myself included) on the reality that we can get caught in the downward sugar spiral every now and then. Even with my modified paleo diet, I’ll occasionally fall into a jag of emotional eating and quickly slip down the sugar rabbit hole.
We’re human. It happens. It’s good to get off of it every now and then so we can remember what it feels like when we abuse it. It’s not pretty.
NOTE: Dried fruit is chock full of sugar. Just because it’s whole fruit doesn’t make it good. I learned this lesson the HARD way with dried mango.
What do we substitute in place of it, if anything? The only sugar you should be consuming during this time is whole fruit. Studies have shown that non-sugar sweeteners (xylitol, stevia, etc) still trigger the brain in undesirable ways. Stick to fruit, and not too much dried fruit as it is LOADED with sugar.
Potential Positive Outcomes: Fewer mood swings, fewer crash and burns, weight loss, fewer inflammatory symptoms, overall better health, more even insulin/blood sugar levels….
